Using synergistic drug and dietary interventions to target metabolic vulnerabilities in glioma.
The Noch Lab is a basic and translational research laboratory focused on identifying novel strategies to target metabolic vulnerabilities in glioma. The lab works to leverage dietary and nutritional regimens to improve treatment options and the efficacy of existing therapies for patients with glioma.
In recent work, we have found that strategies to reduce serum glucose levels improve the efficacy of targeted therapy in glioma, including those targeting the PI3K oncogenic pathway.
The team has also found that glioma cells are specifically killed by certain anti-oxidant supplements, including N-acetylcysteine, and that these inhibitors induce oxidative stress in glioma cells, opening the potential to administer such treatments to patients.
Dr. Noch continues to investigate the effects of dietary interventions in pre-clinical mouse models of glioma, including identifying the effects of omega-3 and omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids and the ketogenic diet on GBM cell growth and lipid metabolism, to translate these findings into dietary studies in patients.
