As a physician-scientist, Dr. Ni explores bacterial colonization of the healthy and inflamed intestinal tract with the goal of modulating the gut microbiota to treat intestinal diseases.

Dr. Ni graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, and earned her medical degree at Northwestern University. She completed a residency in internal medicine at New York University, where she served as a chief resident. She received advanced training in gastroenterology through a T-32 funded fellowship at the University of PennsylvaniaShe then completed a fellowship in gastroenterology at the University of Pennsylvania, where she studied the role of urease in Crohn’s disease-related dysbiosis in the lab of Dr. Gary Wu.

After completing her fellowship, she continued at UPenn as a faculty member, with additional mentoring from Dr. Mark Goulian. She joined the faculty of UT Southwestern in 2021.

Dr. Ni was awarded the 2017 American Gastroenterological Association-Takeda Pharmaceuticals Research Scholar Award in IBD. Her research is funded by the Burroughs Wellcome Fund Career Award for Medical Scientists (2020) and an NIH/NIDDK K08 Award.

Outside of work, Dr. Ni spends her time chasing after her two small children and going on family bike rides. She also enjoys visiting her brother in California and her extended family in Taiwan.
