Vikram Shakkottai directs the Ataxia Clinic at UT Southwestern Medical Center, and through his clinical work, seeks to identify novel genetic causes of ataxia that give insight into ataxia more broadly. The laboratory plays a role in clinical phenotyping of ataxia, and participates in the Clinical Research Consortium for the study of Cerebellar Ataxia (CRC-SCA), a multi-institution collaboration supported by the National Ataxia Foundation to collect natural history data, and to coordinate clinical trials in ataxia. We are interested in translating insights into neuronal dysfunction from mouse models of disease into human clinical trials in spinocerebellar ataxia.
