The Rohatgi lab invites postdoctoral fellows (PhD and MD), graduate students, residents, and medical students to consider a research experience in our laboratory. Dr. Rohatgi has a mentoring grant from the NHLBI (K24) to support trainees in human subjects-related research on deep lipid-phenotyping.
Some areas that would be ideal for trainees:
Genetic of lipid traits
We have access to gene sequencing data from several cohorts with respect to cholesterol efflux and other HDL markers. We also collaborate with Julia Kozlitina, PhD, a statistical genetics expert in the McDermott Center to facilitate such analyses. Projects would entail a genetic epidemiology approach. These would be ideal for a postdoctoral experience and could be supported by and lead to grant funding.
Epidemiology of HDL markers
We have access to multiple cohorts and HDL-related markers. Colby Ayers, MS, is a biostatistician in our group who facilitates such analyses. Projects would entail epidemiologic analyses of markers with various cardiometabolic phenotypes. These would be ideal for clinical fellows and residents.
Phenotyping HDL dysfunction
We have a translational/wet lab where we perform cell-based cholesterol efflux assays, FPLC profiling, ELISA, Western, and other protein and lipid quantifications. We have three full-time research staff conducting these assay. Projects would be translational, conducting assays on blood from human cohorts and may include assessing response to interventions or phenotyping at-risk groups like people with diabetes or renal disease, South Asians, etc. These would be ideal for postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and medical students. These could be supported by and lead to grants.
