Greenberg Named Distinguished Educator
Dr. Greenberg received the award for Distinguished Biomedical Science Educator by the Southwestern Academy of Teachers (SWAT). A Distinguished Teaching Professor, he has received numerous teaching awards since joining the UT Southwestern faculty in 2010, including the Regents’ Outstanding Teacher Award and induction into the Kenneth I. Shine Academy, the premier health science education academy in the University of Texas system. Earlier this year, he received the Eugene and Millicent Goldschmidt Faculty Education Award from the Texas branch of the American Society of Microbiology.

With an escalating crisis in antibiotic resistance, Dr. David Greenberg focuses on innovative ways to detect and treat drug-resistant pathogens. This includes developing pathogen-specific antibiotics as well as non-invasive strategies to deal with prosthetic-related infections. To rethink how treatment options, Dr. Greenberg went outside his field to collaborate with a physicist. Their goal was to try and create a non-surgical, non-invasive way of treating biofilm-related infections on metal implants.

An Evening with the DocStars
The Cary Council, a group of emerging young leaders who
support the missions of Southwestern Medical Foundation and UT Southwestern Medical Center,
announced grant recipients of funds raised to support early stage research from their second
annual “An Evening with DocStars” event. Dr. Greenberg was recognized for addressing the global antibiotic resistance health crisis and is developing a sophisticated computer algorithm to predict whether a strain of bacteria is resistant
and discover new forms of resistance.
